Autumn

autumn

As always, summer has flown by. The kids are back in school (my youngest just entered 4-year-old kindergarten! Eeek! Time flies!), and autumn will be upon us in a few short weeks. As much as I love summer, I always find myself looking forward to autumn, too. I love the changing of the leaves to brilliant oranges and reds; making sweet potato casserole and roasted butternut squash, or whatever looks good at the farmer’s market this time of year; and the crisp evenings on our patio with a crackling fire, sipping warm spiced apple cider. But it’s more than that…

For me, there’s always been something re-energizing about autumn. Maybe it started all those years ago for me when the new school year was like a clean slate, a fresh start, a time to make new goals and strive to achieve them. It’s been a little while since I’ve been in school, but I find that the brisk autumn winds still bring a rush of motivation with them. Since my latest book, Etchings and Embers, was released in July, I’ve been taking it a little bit easier in terms of my writing goals in order to spend quality time with my family and enjoy the weather of our (short!) summer. But now it’s time to hunker down and really devote my all to the goals I’ve set: two more books released by the end of the year! As Amelia Earhardt was quoted as saying, “The most effective way to do it, is just to do it.”

I hope you all find peace and fulfillment as you strive to meet your own personal goals, whatever they may be. But above all, I congratulate you on your daily achievements, big and small!
