As an author, that’s my goal: to take you on a trip somewhere you’ve never been before, to introduce you to new, interesting people (and non-people, as the case may be), and to give you an all-access pass to their stories. I’m the author of the middle grade/young adult fantasy, The Tree of Mindala: Wunderwood Book One. The sequel, The Triad of the Tree will be published in Fall 2015, and the release of the third book, Roots and Relics will follow a few months after that if all goes as planned.
But this spring, I put my Wunderwood series on the back burner to take advantage of an opportunity to spend some time in one of my all-time favorite fantasy worlds: Muirwood. Jeff Wheeler’s Muirwood Trilogy is one I’ve enjoyed reading over and over again. Jeff knew I was a fan, so when he agreed to allow the Muirwood world be available for Kindle Worlds, Amazon’s fan fiction line, he asked me if I would like to be part of it. So I said, um, let me think about it…. YES! To weave my own storyline into his rich and mystical world was an amazing opportunity and a huge honor! I had a blast writing Etchings and Embers, which is available at Etchings and Embers as part of the official launch (today!) of the Muirwood world on Kindle Worlds. As with any fan fiction, it would be enjoyed best if you’re familiar with the original works it was spun from. So if you’ve read Jeff Wheeler’s Muirwood novels, go ahead and check out my contribution, as well as those of the other authors who were a part of the launch. If you haven’t read the original Muirwood trilogy, I highly recommend it for fantasy fans. The epic really is superb, well-written, engaging, page-turning stuff with characters you will quickly come to care about, and others that you may loathe, but they’re all well-developed and intriguing.
